Unfortunately or very carelessly, somebody with authority has directed the hospital to swallow his decision over the security of the hospital. This include provision of security guards and CCTV.
"Any improvement after you have this CCTV?" Very confidently, "We have no case after that, it is zero case", answered the security company rep who was on duty in his Control Room.
My team later had a chat with the hospital Security Officer who was seconded from the National Security Office, whose HQ is at JPM. He mentioned he can't make any comment but enough by showing us the newspaper clip where HTAR was used by a syndicate to park stolen cars. There were 5 cars all together. The incident happened after the hospital was forced to sign a contract with present security company, who is also responsible to instal CCTV. There were many cases even after the CCTV was installed. BUT he said, the hospital already has its own CCTV system. As per normal, there is no allocation for him to repair the current one. Some 40 cameras are not operational.
We had a long talk with the security company officers who were on duty, but answers given made us dissappointed. They dont use motion sensor CCTV system. They cant identify car plate numbers. Very confidently they said, individuals assets are not their responsibilities. We stop there. We dare not ask whether public safety are their responsibilities.
I can't expose more, but JPM must used its power to correct the mistake for the whole country. CCTV is not a system where you can privatise per se. Security Officers employed by the govt have knowledge and experience, and were trained by JPM, yet a contractor was given a power to over ruled him.
